Explanation of the Name |
The name Veenhof can be separated in two parts, " Veen " and " hof ".
" Veen " is the dutch word for turf. and is represented by the three black squares on the crest. The word " hof " is an enclosed garden or pasture. On the shield it's represented by a circular fence. The colors blue and gold were chosen for their meaning of loyalty/truth and generosity. The cross on the top represents ( todays ) Amstelveen (close to Amsterdam ), where the Veenhof family orgininated (as far as known to us).

A field that is PARTY PER FESS is divide horizontally across the middle of the shield. If a shield is divided this way into more than two parts, it is said to by BARRY (pronounced as in bar), followed by the number of bands. Thus the Veenhof shield is "Barry of 3, gold, blue and gold".
